Description:

The geothermal system of the University Rome 3 represents the largest installation at national level that uses geothermal energy piles. In energy piles, the geothermal pipes are embedded within the supporting rebars structure of the piles and pillars.

The dimensioning of the energy needs of the building (using FEM analysis and the software TRNSYS for  thermo-technic and dynamic simulations), the analysis of the geothermal field operating with such loads and the execution of the Ground Response Test, represent some of the the most important consultancy and advising activities that Eneren provided.

The heat pumps management system, provided by Hiref Spa, favors the use of geothermal energy to optimize the performance of the system: if the operation system operation exceeds minimum and maximum temperature limits, or if air temperatures are favorable (eg mild days in winter), then the Air Source heat pump, that is installed in aid of the geothermal one, will turn on.

The system controls the temperature of the heat carrier fluid to avoid structural problems in the concrete of the foundation piles: MIN 5°C, MAX 30°C.
